Janine Parry ’89

After graduating from NC in 1989, Janine earned her undergraduate degree at Western Washington University, and then both her Masters and Doctoral degrees in American Politics at Washington State University. Then for six years, Doctor Parry taught classes in Political Science and Women’s Studies at WSU and Gonzaga University.
In 1998, her career took a big step forward when she accepted a professorship in the Political Science Department at the University of Arkansas. During her 26 years there, she taught students at all levels, from large introductory courses through graduate seminars. Her teaching and research interests include state politics, women in politics, polling and public opinion, and elections and voter turnout. Dr. Parry was awarded Fullbright College’s Master Teacher Award in 2002, and the university-wide Alumni Association Awards for both teaching and service in 2005.
In 2015 she received the Imhoff Award for Outstanding Teaching and Student Mentorship, and in 2016 she earned the University of Arkansas’s highest teaching honor, the Charles and Nadine Baum Faculty Teaching Award.
Dr. Parry has co-authored over 60 scholarly publications. During her career she has been a guest speaker and lecturer for many government, business, and social gatherings, and has provided political analysis to news outlets, including The New York Times, National Public Radio, and The Associated Press.
