Robert J. Laikin Leadership Award

Partnering with NCHS Alum and Hall of Famer, Robert Laikin, three years ago the Alumni Association created the Robert Laikin Leadership Award… to recognize a North Central graduating Senior who has demonstrated the ability to overcome and excel under adverse conditions.  This year’s scholarship was evenly-divided between two deserving applicants: Krista Johnson and Niko Flores

Krista Johnson ranks in the “top ten” academically, of her class.  She is also very involved outside of the classroom:

North Central Symphony Orchestra (violin) 9-12
Member of the National Honor Society 11-12
Varsity Member “Brain Game”
Member of the French Club and Key Club
In addition, Krista has been involved in many community volunteer activities – too many to list here!
Krista’s goal is to “become a truly impactful teacher of English”.  Her passion will take her to Wheaton College next fall.

Niko Flores is proud to be the “big brother” of four sisters that benefited from his supervision during some challenging years for his family.  Niko has been an officer of the Key Club, North Central Varsity Wrestler, and a volunteer for several NCHS and Church activities.  One of Niko’s teachers writes “his commitment to working hard and working with others is clearly evident” when he talks about his involvement at North Central High School.  Niko has his eyes set on attending Ball State University next year.

Congratulations to Krista and Niko for their persistence and drive to succeed!  We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

The NCHS Alumni Board would like to express our gratitude to Robert J. Laikin, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Brightpoint (recently acquired by Ingram Micro) and NCHS Hall-of-Famer for conceiving and underwriting this $5000 annual needs-based award.
